The Chief Magistrate of Ntungamo Sarah Kolya has on Tuesday remanded State Minister for Labour, Mwesigwa Rukutana to prison till September 15 2020. In a court appearance where a few family members of Rukutana were allowed in, Kolya extended the bail application without giving any reasons as she only adjourned the ruling. However, Rukutana’s lawyers claim their client needs medical attention. Yesterday the Ntungamo Grade One magistrate Nasifah Namayanja Rukutana to Kakika Prison in Mbarara on charges of attempted murder, malicious damage and theft of a gun. Rukutana was arrested on Saturday together with his four bodyguards following a violate exchange between the minister and supporters of his rival Naome Kabasharira who had defeated him in the NRM primaries. In his statement on Monday, President Museveni disclosed that Rukutana will be prosecuted for the offenses he committed and it seems this is the time the minister is paying for his sins.
