The boxing and entire sporting fraternity has woken up to sad and shocking news of the murder of former national team captain, Isaac Zebra Ssenyange.
Commonly known as “Mando” among the boxing fraternity, Ssenyange, 39,is said to have been gunned down by unknown assailants from his home in Bwaise, Kampala in the wee hours of Wednesday.The deceased’s wife and now widow Mercy Ssenyange is quoted by sources as saying, they were first knocked at the door before they opened and the shooting was done.
Before going professional, Ssenyange’s name in the amateur boxing had come to prominence when he captained the national team (The Bombers) to the 10th All Africa Games held in Maputo city, Mozambique in 2011. Until his death, Ssenyange has been responsible for general duties at the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF). He also owned Zebra Boxing Club.
Mando’s assassination comes at a time when another prominent boxer and world champion Justin Jjuuko was allegedly abducted by armed people and taken to a place yet to be determined. His people say he has been missing for about twenty days now.
